Story Moja Festival is an international celebration of ideas stories and writing culture through books, storytelling, live discussions, poetry, skits, music demonstrations, workshops, and so on. The festival has been in operation for more than a decade. It started as the Nyama Choma Reading Fiesta and later morphed into Story Moja Festival. It also involves open mics, exhibitions, and performances as we as art competitions. It has been described as the biggest book party in East Africa as well as a celebration of books, stories, and culture. It has gained fame due to its vibrant way of gathering the greatest minds in Kenya and beyond.
Story Moja Festival envisages becoming the most stimulating gathering of writers artists and celebrities who will explore, showcase, generate done celebrate African narrative in various creative and cultural forms. It comes among other literary festivals like the Nairobi international book fair as were as the recently launched Macondo Literary festival. Storymoja is also a publishing company established by a collective of writers who are committed to the publishing contemporary East African writing of excellent calibre. The idea is to increase the level of literacy and numeracy amongst children through the publication o high quality and age-appropriate content. This will also help in nurturing the life-ling reading culture. The Story Moja Festival also has partners who take part in ensuring the event takes place successfully.
Throughout its existence, Story Moja Festival has handled various topics, some of which include living with chronic illness, we the people and so on. Story Moja Festival aims at nurturing and growing African reading and writing. It also seeks to contribute to the growth of and sustainability of the Kenyan reading culture as well as provide a chance to engage, collaborate, and showcase both local and international talent. The next Story Moja Festival is slated for 28 February to 1st of March 2020 and promises to be bigger and better.
