On 31stof August 2019, celebrated Television host an news anchor Jeff Koinange started fulfilling his promise to the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth. The latelawmaker who succumbed to colorectal cancer challenged Jeff to build a library at Mbagathi Girls High School and stock it. Among the book,donors to this noble cause werethe Maktabas Organization that donated more than 2000 books to the Ken Okoth Library. By the time of Ken Okoth’s demise, the library was yet to be completed, but Jeff saw to it that it was great way to honour the late MP.
The Ken Okoth Librarywas initially destined to be namedas Jeff Koinange Library. However, as Jeff launched the first stocking f books in the premises, he also renamed it as the Ken Okoth Memorial Library to honour his late friend. Jeff Koinange called on well-wishers to continue bringing in more books to the library, a call that Makatabas Organization http://www.maktabasinc.orgheeded and made the first donation of a book. Computer donations were also welcome to ensure the library is a fully-fledged resource centre for students in Mbagathi Girls High School.
The Ken Okoth Library was part of the Elimu Kwanza drive that was initiated by the late MP to fillthe premises with books to meet the needs of the students. The idea for the Ken Okoth Library was birthedduring one of the JKL shows, andboth Jeff Koinange and the late MP talked about it. About Ken Okoth Memorial Library
The Ken Okoth Memorial Library was the brainchild of the late Kibra MP who then brought jeff Koinange on board. The Library stands within the Mbagathi Girls High School and is one of the epitomes of Ken’s achievements as the area MP. It also signified his legacy as wellas his heavyinvestment in education for the people of Kibra. The Constituency Development Funds funded the project.
The launch was to be undertaken by both Jeff Koinange and the late Ken Okoth, but the latter passed on before it could happen. Book donations can still be made to the library at any time to ensure it is fully stocked to meet the needs of the students. It is a dream come true not only for the students of Mbagathi High Schoolbut also for Jeff Koinange and the late MP, Ken Okoth Library is his legacy.
