The Ake Arts and Book Festival has announced the dates for the 2020 edition. This festival is slated to take place from the 22nd to the 25th of 0ctober, 2020. This gives everyone a good chance to make their entries to participate in this festival. The Ake Arts and Book Festival has held numerous editions over the years and seek to celebrate African creativity. Writers are invited to submit their unpublished works. Entries are also made in the fields of film, poetry, book chats, literature, and theatre, dance, and so on.
The 2019 edition
This year’s Ake Arts and Book Festival edition was themed Black Bodies, Grey Matter. The idea was to explore the connection between the mental, the physical, and specific phenomena such as body image, scarification, stereotyping, tattoo, gender nonconformity, as well as colorism. The festival also tackled the issues that surround mental health in an African context. This was the seventh edition since the Ake Arts and Book Festival’s inception, and it takes place every year. It was organized by the Book Buzz Foundation, Nigeria, and took place between the 24th and 27th of October 2019.
Call for submissions
The submissions for the Ake Arts and Book Festival 2020 edition are open, and all entries can be sent via email. The entries must be original. What’s more, you can only make one submission. Successful applicants are to receive two copies of Ake Review and a token payment.
The Ake Review
This is an annual journal and official publication of the Ake Arts and Book Festival. It features ten questions that are usually answered by Ake Festival guests. It also includes longer interviews, poetry, short fiction, photography, as well as art. If your work is chosen for publication in the Ake Review journal, you get two contributor copies.
Celebrating African creativity
