The African literary scene has grown over the years, with the emergence of literary festivals all over the continent. There are many African Literary festivals happening in 2020, and this is just a simple indication of the growing demand for content among the African audience. From Ake Arts and Book Festival in Nigeria, Macondo Literary Festival in Nairobi, Kenya, Hargeysa International Bookfair, and so on. A lot is happening with regard to African Literary Festivals. London Book Fair
The 2020 edition of The London Book Fair which is one of the largest worldwide will be held at Olympia in London, the event will be starting on 10th March. It is a 3-day event and the organizers are Reed Exhibitions Ltd.
This book fair was slated for the 22nd of January to 4th February 2020. It is currently underway and is taking place in Cairo, Egypt. It is one of the largest and oldest book fairs in the Arb world and happens every year. It is organized by the General Egyptian Book Organization and is a significant event in the Arab publishing world.
Franschhoek Literary Festival
This African literary festival brings together a broad cross-section of South African English-speaking writers as well as the distinguished authors from other parts of the continent and the world at large. This year’s Franschhoek Literary Festival is happening from the 15th to 17th of May 2020 in Cape Town, South Africa. The idea is to come up with literary events that inspire, inform and raise funds for local communities and school libraries.
Macondo Literary Festival
This is one of the emerging African literary festivals which debuted in September 2019. This literary festival brings together writers from the Portuguese and English-speaking Africa for conversations, debates and readings on the African histories that are featured in the fictional and non-fictional works. This festival is slated for the 28 to 30th of August 2020 and is happening in Nairobi, Kenya.
Ake Arts & Books Festival 2020
This year’s theme for the Ake Arts & Books Festival is “Black Magic.” The festival is slated for the 22nd to 25th of October 2020 and will take place in Lagos, Nigeria. This festival has grown to become one of the most recognized brands on the African literary circuit. It has hosted some of the best African writers from African like Wole Soyinka, Ngugi wa Thiong’o and others.
Abantu Books Festival
The Abantu books festival is a platform for black writers and readers. It will be held in South Africa at SOWETO, from 3-6 December 2020.
Other African Literary Festivals happening in 2020 include the African Book Festival slated for April 17-19 2020 in Berlin, Germany, Alexandria International Bok Festival slated for April in Alexandria, Egypt, Nigeria International Book Fair happening in Lagos from May 11th to 15th 2020.
