Making a promise is one thing, and fulfilling it is another. As for Jeff Koinange, the celebrated Citizen TV news anchor and host of the JKL, this was something he had to do. Jeff was fulfilling his promise of building a library at Mbagathi Girls High School after the late former Kibra MP, Ken Okoth, challenged him. However, Jeff had not completed the entire task when the sudden news of Ken Okoth’s demise hit. As such, Jeff took this task head-onand ensured it is completed-in honour of his late friend.Improving The Reading Culture in Kenya
Initially, the library was to be named “The Jeff Koinange Library”, andon Saturday 31stof Augustthis year, Jeff arrived at the school with the first batch of the books to stock the library. On the same day, Jeff renamed the premises as “The Ken Okoth Memorial Library” in honourof the late lawmaker, who was also one of his close friends. The Jeff Koinange Live show host and news anchor also called on well-wishers to continue donating books and computers to the library to help Mbagathi Girls High School student access knowledge. The Ken Okoth Library was the brainchild of the fallen lawmaker, which he fought for to the last breath.
Now with Jeff Koinange stocking it with books, it is a dream come true not only for the late MPbut also for Mbagathi Girls High School and Kibra residents. The Ken Okoth Library was part of a drive dubbed “Elimu Kwanza” that aimed at filling the library with the right reading material to meet the needs of the students.
About Ken Okoth Memorial Library
The project of building the now renamed Ken Okoth Memorial Library was mooted almost three years ago as a challenge to Jeff Koinange. Initially, it was to be named as Jeff Koinange Library by the late Kibra MP. Together with Jeff Koinange; Ken oversaw the breaking of the ground for the project within Mbagathi Girl High School. The project is a towering block that was funded by the Constituency Development Funds and is a stamp to the legacy left behind by the late Ken Okoth, who had invested heavily in education to benefit the people of Kibra.
The Ken Okoth Library was to be launched by Jeff Koinange and Ken,but that was not to happen because the lawmaker passed on before it could happen.
